Race Day Preparation Tips
Specific advice for Gold Coast athletes competing in Brisbane.
Book accommodation early
HYROX Brisbane typically sells out within days of registration opening. Book accommodation in the Brisbane CBD or South Bank as soon as your wave time is confirmed. Athletes travelling from the Gold Coast often stay overnight to avoid an early-morning drive.
Arrive the day before
Athlete check-in and bib collection usually opens the day before the event. Collecting your bib early eliminates race-morning stress and gives you time to walk the venue and warm up properly.
Understand the wave system
HYROX uses a rolling wave start. Your wave time is assigned based on your estimated finish time. If you are a first-timer, select a conservative estimate — you can always beat it.
Train on race-spec equipment
HYROX events use specific sled weights, Concept2 rowers, and SkiErg machines. Training on the same equipment removes surprises on race day. HYROX Performance Centre Gold Coast and Elev8 Upper Coomera both have race-spec setups.
Plan your nutrition
For most athletes, HYROX is a 60–90 minute effort. A solid pre-race meal 2–3 hours before, with a small carbohydrate top-up 30 minutes out, is sufficient. Avoid trying new foods on race day.
